Can foreigners get Coupang Wow? Requirements and what to do before you can (2026)

UPDATED 2026-11 · 5 MIN READ · COMFY LANDING

Everyone in Korea tells you to get Coupang Wow: free Rocket delivery on a single item, next-morning arrivals, 30-day free returns. Then you try to sign up from abroad, or in your first week here, and get stuck at identity verification.

Here is what Wow actually requires, what it costs, and how to shop at the same local prices while you can't join yet.

The short answer

Yes, foreigners can join Coupang Wow, but only once they can pass Coupang's identity verification. Coupang's own FAQ says the Wow fee can only be paid through Coupay, Coupang's payment wallet, and that Coupay is available only to identity-verified members. It lists two cases where Coupay can't be used: using a phone registered in someone else's name, and being an unregistered foreigner who can't complete verification.

In practice that means you need an Alien Registration Card (ARC) and a Korean phone number in your own name. For most exchange students and new hires, that's two to six weeks after landing.

What you need to join Coupang Wow

What Wow includes

According to Coupang's FAQ, Wow members get free delivery on Rocket items with no minimum, dawn delivery for Rocket Fresh groceries (orders over ₩15,000), same-day and next-dawn delivery on marked items, 30-day free returns on unused Rocket items, member-only deals, Coupang Play benefits and free delivery on eligible Coupang Eats orders. It's a good deal once you live here.

Can I just use a friend's account?

It's tempting, but Coupang's Wow terms (Article 8) say members may not lend, transfer or delegate their membership rights to anyone else. You'd also be putting your friend's account and payment details at risk every time you order. Not worth it.

Before you can join: how to still pay local prices

The gap between landing and getting verified is exactly when you need the most: bedding, a kettle, a router for a wired-only dorm, hangers, toilet paper. A few options:
